Vanellas Vanellas the latin name for Peewits or Lapwings are not as common as they used to be, but at my fathers house on the Welsh border in Shropshire they can still be found. Walking across the common or up to the small outcrop of trees called the Callow, the sound of their call is one which takes me straight back to my youth, and the hours I spent bird watching and walking in the hills.
